DESIGN OF THE WEEK

It has been said many times before, designs at Moorcroft arouse memories in people and in fact, some Moorcroft designs have been specially created to capture them at Moorcroft Club events in the Lake District, houses owned by the National Trust and other places of natural beauty. Spring has always been something Moorcroft celebrates from the first Bluebells at Renishaw Hall to our own Spring Festival collections each year. BUY NOW Confetti, with its delicate pink cherry blossom, epitomises this great fanfare to spring.  When the cherry trees start to bloom, young and old are delighted with the candy-floss coloured trees and their alluring, fleeting beauty. In Japan, cherry blossoms are called sakura, the sacred, national flower.

The cherry tree’s spectacular blossom display usually lasts around two weeks, before the blossoms start to fall. During this season in Japan, people like to have cherry blossom parties underneath the trees with colleagues, friends, and family. Just looking at cherry blossom will bring about happy memories of such traditions for people in Japan, and this may be one of the reasons why cherry trees are planted directly outside offices – to lift moral. The Japanese call this custom hanami. Hanami literally means “watching blossoms,” and the tradition can be traced back at least a thousand years.

The explosion of pale pink petals is a euphoric sight to behold and unsurprisingly it is often used in weddings as confetti – it is a symbol of new beginnings, new seasons and holds the colour of love itself. Cherry blossom is intrinsically entwined in Japanese culture and links to that nations Buddhist themes of mortality, mindfulness and enjoying the gift of the present. In short, some may see Japanese cherry blossoms as a timeless metaphor for human existence. Blooming season is powerful, glorious and intoxicating, but tragically short-lived — a visual reminder that our lives, too, are fleeting and that dwelling on the past is something that will steal the joy of the present. For wedding gifts and symbols of love, Confetti has it all. In Moorcroft, the romantic bloom never drops a leaf – only the price when it is championed as the Moorcroft design of the week!
